Our cross-curricular theme for this term half term is:

Earth and Space

Our class novel for this half term will be Tupilak (an Inuit tale)

During our topic work we will develop skills in the following subject areas:

Literacy – Explanation texts (based on natural disasters),Traditional tales (legends linked to Native Americans)

ICT – multi-media presentations, e-safety cyber bullying

Science – Earth and Space .

Geography – Finding out about natural phenomena and comparisons between the polar regions.

Art – Landscape space drawings and comic aliens.

Music- Space music (composition)

Other subjects to be covered this term are:

Numeracy- this term our non-negotiable focus will be bonds to 1000 and adding, halving and doubling decimals.  We will also be covering Place Value; Ordering & rounding; Using a calculator; Understanding + and – ; Mental calculation strategies; Money & real life problems; Fractions, decimals & percentages; Shape & space; Measures; Handling Data; Number properties.

PSHE – Going for Goals

RE – Sikhism

PE – Gymnastics

French – Daily routines, months and seasons

Visits and visitors / Dates for your diaries

Thursday 9th February-Visit to the Planetarium

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and due back on a Monday.

Practise maths targets and non-negotiables at home daily.

Read regularly at home.

PE Days – Tuesdays and Thursdays or Fridays.

There will be some swapping around of PE days so please ensure your child has their kit in on all of the above days.

Literacy – we will focus around the class novel this term and include film narrative, poetry as well as reports, letters and diary entries.

History- Cowboys and Indians

Music- Traditional Native American music (including composition)
