Curriculum Overview Year Group: 5 Term: Summer A

Our cross-curricular theme for this term half term is a continuation of:
- The Wild West
Our class novel for this half term will continue to be: The Indian in the cupboard.
During our topic work we will develop skills in the following subject areas:
Literacy – we will focus around the class novel this term and include non chronological reports and myths and legends.
History/Geography- American History
Art – Drawing and painting portraits.
Other subjects to be covered this term are:
Numeracy- this term our non-negotiable focus will be multiplication and division facts, as well as recapping bonds to 1000. We will also be covering Place Value; Ordering & rounding; Using a calculator; Understanding + and – ; Mental calculation strategies; Money & real life problems; Fractions, decimals & percentages; Shape & space; Measures; Handling Data; Number properties.
ICT – Spreadsheets.
RE – The Teachings of Jesus.
PE – Rounders
French – Months, seasons and weather.
Science –ChangingStateand Food chains on the Plains
Music – Cowboy and Folk Music

5AM - Bikeability, Thursday 2nd May and Friday 3rd May
5KR – Bikeability, Thursday 9th May and Friday 10th May
5AM – Trip to Rising Sun, Wednesday 12th June
5KR – Trip to Rising Sun, Thursday 13th June
Homework
Homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and due back on a Monday.
Practise maths targets and non-negotiables at home daily.
Read regularly at home.
PE Days – Monday and Tuesdays or Fridays.
There will be some swapping around of PE days so please ensure your child has their kit in on all of the above days.
