Our cross-curricular theme(s) for this term are:
1. World War Two 2. Mountain environment and people
During our topic work we will develop skills in the following subject areas:
Topic 1
Literacy – Analysing the writer’s use of language and developing a variety of sentence openers and vocabulary. Using a range of non fiction texts to evaluate information from different sources and create our own persuasive and informative texts in a range of formats. Class reader – Machine Gunners
Speaking and Listening – Presenting information to others in a variety of ways and role play based activities.
ICT – Creating spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. Using internet sources critically and considering e-safety.
History – Placing events on timeline, using a range of sources to find out about the past, considering the role of evacuation and the plight of the Jews through the story of Anne Frank.
DT – Designing and making World War Two planes.
Art – Analysing and creating art work in the style of LS Lowry and create a propaganda poster.
Topic 2
Literacy – Explanation texts and writing, discussion of arguments which balance viewpoints and non chronological reports relating to the mountain theme
Geography – map reading skills, how mountain environments change over time, how mountain people have adapted to their surroundings
Music – composing music that has a mountain theme
Art – using pastels to create a mountain image
ICT – interpreting databases
Science - Interdependence and Adaptation

Non-negotiables Y6 (these are facts we would like you to practice whenever possible!)
- Knowing times tables to 10x is ESSENTIAL!
- addition and subtraction facts for multiples of 10 to 1000 and decimal numbers with one decimal place, e.g. 650 + = 930, – 1.4 = 2.5
- equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages for hundredths, e.g. 35% is equivalent to 0.35 or 35/100

Homework
Maths and Literacy homework set on Fridays – Maths to be handed in on Mondays, Literacy on Wednesdays.
Children should also practise reading and maths targets daily.
